MEES (MINIMUM ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS) COMPLIANCE
Under the MEES Regulations, all buildings must meet a minimum energy performance standard before they can be leased. Currently, the minimum requirement is an EPC rating of ‘E’ or higher. Properties that do not meet this standard may still be leased if they qualify for inclusion on the official Exemption Register, subject to specific criteria.
The MEES Regulations are currently under government review, with an announcement expected in 2025. It is widely anticipated that the minimum EPC requirement will rise to a ‘C’ rating, with the implementation timescale to be confirmed in the forthcoming update.
