MEES (MINIMUM ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS) COMPLIANCE

The MEES Regulations establish a minimum energy efficiency standard that all buildings must meet before they can be legally leased. Currently, this minimum standard is set at an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘E’ or above. Buildings that do not meet this requirement may be eligible for inclusion on the Exemption Register, provided they satisfy specific criteria.

The MEES Regulations are currently under government review, with an official announcement expected in 2025. It is widely anticipated that the minimum EPC requirement will be raised to a rating of ‘B’. The implementation timeline for this change will be confirmed as part of the forthcoming review.
